The front casting housing end-cap absorbs intense forward hydraulic thrust during timber splitting cycles. A hairline crack or damaged mounting face will cause fluid weeping and loss of ram stability. When replacing the front casting head, thoroughly clean all old gasket sealant, metal filings, and grit from the main hydraulic cylinder tube face. Replace internal O-rings/seals and torque end-flange mounting bolts criss-cross in stages to maintain even sealing pressure and eliminate oil leaks.
