If the gap is too wide, the wood fibers will pull and tear rather than shear cleanly, causing clogs and extra strain on the belt drive system. When mounting this replacement, always use a feeler gauge to accurately check your clearance gap against factory tolerances across the full length of the edge. Ensure all mounting fasteners are secured evenly with the flat and split lock washers provided to prevent the bed plate from moving under structural chipping shock loads.
